Corporate Involvement

Be a true Corporate Citizen

Bengaluru, the erstwhile Garden city, is fast losing its greenery to concrete and glass. And with it is going the flara and fauna native to the city.

IS THIS WHAT WE WANT TO LEAVE BEHIND FOR OUR CHILDREN?

Cutting trees down seems inevitable with progress and evolution. If we can ensure that 100 trees are planted for every tree that has been cut, we may mitigate some of the ill effects.

Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC) and concerned citizens have taken up a major project to plant trees, In the last two years, RBITC has planted over 500 trees around a lake and over 1000 trees along the road leading to Varthur.

Now, in the first instance, we plan to plant one lakhs trees in the Whitefield area before Aug. 15, 2008. Once the SoP has been established, we hope to replicate it all over the city and beyond with the help of other Rotary Clubs.

RBITC is in dialogue with various environment related organisations and known environmentalists. We plan to put in metrics to track changes in the carbon di-oxide levels, ground water level, variety of butterflies and birds, including sparrows over the next 3 to 5 years.

We look to the Corporate World to support this effort. You can do this in many ways:

  1. Encourage your employees to participate in this endeavour. We are asking people to pay Rs. 100 towards one tree, as their contribution. People can also actively involve themselves in the various parts of the project – identify areas to plant trees, create awareness, actually plant trees, help maintain them till they grow, etc.
  2. Identify areas (inside the campus or outside) where the organisation can take responsibility for maintaining the trees till they can stand on their own.
  3. Contribute to the project:
    1. Gold Contributor             5000 trees @ Rs. 100 each
    2. Silver Contributor           2500 trees @ Rs. 100 each
    3. Bronze Contributor          1000 trees @ Rs. 100 each

Be recognised as a socially responsible company – particularly towards the environment, a vital issue for all our children. Companies will be presented an appropriate plaque in acknowledgement of their contribution
Additionally, contributors would be recognised/acknowledged on our website, and in press releases and press conferences. A large function is planned on Aug 15, at which they would be given banner space.
We already have the first Gold Contributor – mChek.
